tns_start(1) — Commands
NAME
tns_start − Starts the TNS server
SYNOPSIS
tns_start
DESCRIPTION
The tns_start command is used to create and enable the TeMIP Name Service (TNS) server on a system. A TNS server stores and maintains information about TeMIP entities in a highly available, distributed, and replicated database.
Distributed TeMIP requires access to a properly configured and available TNS server. The TNS server must be running and be accessible from a TeMIP director system before invoking TeMIP, or using the temip_setup or temip_config commands.
A TNS server can be started on the same system as a TeMIP director, or on a separate system. The TNS clerk is the interface between TeMIP and TNS servers.
A TNS server is created and enabled during configuration of the server using the tns_server_setup command. Therefore, it is not normally necessary to issue the tns_start command directly. It is only necessary if the TNS server has been disabled, for example, by the tns_stop command. The tns_start command also starts the TNS clerk, if it is not already running.
On successful completion of the tns_start command, tns_adv and tns_server processes are started.
RESTRICTIONS
tns_start can only be run under super-user.
tns_start will not re-start the server if it is already running.
tns_start will not re-start the clerk if it is already running.
