XSTART(8x) COMMAND REFERENCE XSTART(8x) NAME xstart - start X window system operation For 4310, 4320, and 4330 series UTek products only. SYNOPSIS /etc/xstart DESCRIPTION The program xstart reads the file /etc/X.conf(5x) to determine whether the X window system should be started; if so, the specified server is started. A pause is done to allow the server to begin execution, then a console window and a login window are started. If no server is specified in the X.conf(5x) file, xstart ensures that the console entry in the file /etc/ttys(5) is set to allow logins. If a server is specified, the console entry is set - logins are not allowed. On the 4320 and 4330 series the console entry is the gds entry. Then, xstart waits on any of the started processes to terminate. If the server dies, the entire window system is restarted. If either the console window or the login window terminates, that window is recreated. The signal SIGHUP causes xstart to reread the X.conf(5x) file and restarts the window system based on the current specifications. FILES X.conf(5x) Created by xconfig(8x) and used by xstart(8x) so that the X window configuration is preserved from one boot to the next ttys(5) Controls the ability to login using the init(8) process CAVEATS No input validation is done for the values read in the file.
