NAME

sbconv − convert sound file data format

SYNOPSIS

sbconv [ options ] infile outfile

DESCRIPTION

sbconv reads data from a Sony Multimedia format sound file as an infile, performs format conversion as specified by the options, and writes the data to an outfile.

The following options are available. 

Specifying the Cording

−mulaw Specifies mu-law (default). 

−alaw Specifies A-law. 

−strpcm Specifies Straight PCM. 

−adpcm1 Specifies the Sony ADPCM format. 

−adpcm2 Specifies ADPCM of CD-ROM mode 2, user data format. 

Specifying the Number of Channels

−mono Specifies mono (default). 

−stereo Specifies stereo. 

Specifying the Number of Data Bits

−4 Specifies 4 as the number of data bits. 

−8 Specifies 8 as the number of data bits (default). 

−16 Specifies 16 as the number of data bits. 

Specifying the Sampling Frequency

−8000 Specifies the sampling frequency of 8000 Hz (default). 

−16000 Specifies the sampling frequency of 16000 Hz. 

−32000 Specifies the sampling frequency of 32000 Hz. 

−9450 Specifies the sampling frequency of 9450 Hz. 

−18900 Specifies the sampling frequency of 18900 Hz. 

−37800 Specifies the sampling frequency of 37800 Hz. 

−11025 Specifies the sampling frequency of 11025 Hz. 

−22050 Specifies the sampling frequency of 22050 Hz. 

−44100 Specifies the sampling frequency of 44100 Hz. 

−12000 Specifies the sampling frequency of 12000 Hz. 

−24000 Specifies the sampling frequency of 24000 Hz. 

−48000 Specifies the sampling frequency of 48000 Hz. 

−44056 Specifies the sampling frequency of 44056 Hz. 

Specifying the Emphasis for ADPCM

+emphasis Specifies emphasis is on. 

−emphasis Specifies emphasis is off. 

Other

−interactive The format can be specified interactively on the standard input. 

If no options are specified, the defaults mu-law cording, single channel (mono), 8-bit data, and 8 kHz sampling frequency are used for conversion. 

LIMITATIONS

Format transformation may spoil the quality of sound.  It may also cause little change of frequency (pitch) and length of sound.
