bt742(7) —
NAME
bt742 − low-level controller module
DESCRIPTION
The bt742 module provides low-level interface routines between the High Performance Device Driver (see hpdd(7)) and the BusTek BT-742 Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA) Intelligent Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) Host Adapters. It can be configured for disk or streaming tape support for one or more host adapter boards, each of which must be the sole initiator on a SCSI bus. The low-level code tries to match the software configuration with the hardware configuration (see the INTERACTIVE UNIX System Installation and Maintenance Guide) and determines what types of devices are attached to the adapter. It handles simultaneous requests for all devices, overlapping operations where the devices will permit. The bt742 module also runs on the AMI Fast Disk SCSI with 4/8/16 Mg of disk cache. Your EISA configuration file is !AMI15D1.CFG.
For information on configuring a kernel to include the bt742 module, refer to the INTERACTIVE UNIX System Installation and Maintenance Guide.
Board Configuration
If the BT-742 adapter is to be used as the primary adapter for the installation kernel, it must be configured to operate in Adaptec AHA-1540 compatibility mode (see aha1540(7), paying particular attention to the discussion on limitations).
Once the installation kernel is installed, kconfig(1) may be used to configure the bt742 module and allow the extended (EISA) features of the BT-742 adapter to be used.
If you have an AMI (American Megatrends, Inc.) driver board (Caching Controller Series 15, 44, or 441 with local BIOS version 1.22 or greater, or Non-caching Controller Series 48 with local BIOS version 1.01 or greater), you can use the AMI driver without modifying its space.c file. If you have an older AMI board, you need to modify its space.c file (/etc/conf/pack.d/ami/space.c) and assign a value of 0 to the updated_ami_bios variable before building a new kernel.
If more than one board is to be used in a single system, each must occupy a different interrupt level.
