NAME

aha1520 − low-level controller module

DESCRIPTION

The aha1520 module provides low-level interface routines between the High Performance Device Driver (see hpdd(7)) and the Adaptec AHA-1520 and AHA-1522 Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) Host Adapters.  It can be configured for disk or streaming tape support for only one host adapter board.  The low-level code determines if the adapter is, in fact, present at the standard address (0x340) or at the secondary address (0x140) and reconfigures itself accordingly (see disk(7) and tape(7)). It also determines what types of devices are attached to it. It handles simultaneous requests for all devices, overlapping operations where the devices will permit.

For information on configuring a kernel to include the aha1520 module, refer to the “INTERACTIVE UNIX Operating System Maintenance Procedures.”

Board Configuration

The default configurations described in the Adaptec AHA-1520/1522 User’s Manual should be used for standard configurations of the system.

Limitations

Due to an address range overlap, if the Adaptec AHA-1520 adapter is being used as the boot adapter at its standard address (0x340), the Western Digital WD7000-ASC can only be present at a base I/O address other than the default (0x350).  Similarly, if the WD7000-ASC adapter is being used as the boot adapter (I/O base address 0x350), the system must not also contain an Adaptec AHA-1520 adapter at base address 0x340.  Adaptec can supply a non-standard adapter having an I/O address of 0x140.
