labelit(1M-vxfs) (VxFS) labelit(1M-vxfs)
NAME
labelit (vxfs) - provide labels for a Veritas File System (VxFS)
SYNOPSIS
labelit [-F vxfs] [genericoptions] [-n] special [fsname volume]
DESCRIPTION
This manual page is an addendum to the labelit(1M) manual page. It
describes the Veritas File System (VxFS) specific features of the
labelit command.
labelit can be used to provide labels for unmounted Veritas disk file
systems or for tapes being used to copy Veritas file systems. With the
optional arguments omitted, labelit prints current label values.
The special name should be the disk partition (for example,
/dev/ios0/rsdisk000s3) or the tape device (for example,
/dev/ios0/rstape000). The device may not be on a remote machine.
The fsname argument represents the mounted name (for example, /, /usr,
and so on) of the file system. volume may be used to equate an inter-
nal name to a volume name applied externally to the disk pack,
diskette or tape.
For file systems on disk, fsname, and volume are recorded in the super
block.
OPTIONS
-F vxfs Specifies the VxFS file system type (FSType). Used to ensure
that a VxFS file system is labeled.
