labelit(1M) labelit(1M)
NAME
labelit (generic) - provide labels for file systems
SYNOPSIS
labelit [-F FSType] [-V] [-o specificoptions] special [operands]
DESCRIPTION
labelit can be used to provide labels for unmounted disk file systems
or file systems being copied to tape.
The special name should be the physical disk section (e.g.
/dev/ios0/rsdisk000s3), or the tape (e.g. /dev/ios0/rstape00). The
device may not be on a remote machine. operands are FSType-specific
and the manual page of the FSType-specific labelit command should be
consulted for a detailed description.
There are two types of option: genericoptions and specificoptions.
genericoptions indicate options that are supported not only by the
generic but also by the FST-specific module of the command (if that
command exists). specificoptions indicate suboptions that are sup-
ported only by the FST-specific module of the command. They are speci-
fied in a comma-separated list and/or as keyword-attribute pairs for
interpretation by the FST-specific module of the command. These subop-
tions are specified via the -o option.
OPTIONS
The genericoptions are:
-F Specifies the FSType on which to operate. The FSType should
either be specified here or be determinable from /etc/vfstab by
matching the special with an entry in the table.
-V Echoes complete command line. This option is used to verify and
validate the command line. Additional information obtained via a
/etc/vfstab lookup is included in the output. The command is not
executed. When used with the FSType option, it passes the -V to
the FSType-specific module for interpretation.
-o Specifies FSType-specific options.
There are no otheroptions for this command.
NOTE
This command may not be supported for all FSTypes.
