volcopy(1M) volcopy(1M)
NAME
volcopy (generic) - make literal copy of file system
SYNOPSIS
volcopy [-F FSType] [-V] [-a|-sy] [-buf] [-bpi density] [-feet size]
[-reel num]
[-o specificoptions] operands
DESCRIPTION
volcopy makes a literal copy of the file system.
There are two types of option: genericoptions and specificoptions.
genericoptions indicate options that are supported not only by the
generic but also by the FST-specific module of the command (if that
command exists). specificoptions indicate suboptions that are sup-
ported only by the FST-specific module of the command. They are speci-
fied in a comma-separated list and/or as keyword-attribute pairs for
interpretation by the FST-specific module of the command. These subop-
tions are specified via the -o option. The options are of two types:
genericoptions and specificoptions. genericoptions indicate options
that are supported by the FSType-specific module of the command (if
that command exists), and specificoptions indicate suboptions speci-
fied in a comma-separated list of suboptions and/or keyword-attribute
pairs for interpretation by the FSType-specific module of the command.
The latter are specified via the -o option.
operands generally include the device and volume names and are file
system specific. A detailed description of the operands can be found
in the FSType-specific man pages for volcopy.
OPTIONS
The generic options are:
-F Specifies the FSType on which to operate. The FSType should
either be specified here or be determinable from /etc/vfstab by
matching the operands with an entry in the table.
-V Echoes the complete command line, but does not execute the com-
mand. The command line is generated by using the options and
arguments provided by the user and adding to them information
derived from /etc/vfstab. This option should be used to verify
and validate the command line. When used with the FSType option,
it passes the -V to the FSType-specific module for interpreta-
tion.
-a Invokes a verification sequence ("yes") requiring a positive
operator response instead of the standard 10 second delay before
the copy is made.
-s Inverse of -a. A 10 second delay is given after the from/to
devices are printed (followed by a ?). During this time the com-
mand can be aborted by entering a delete (DEL).

-y Assumes a "yes" response to all questions.
The following generic options are used only with reel tapes: (not
applicable to cartridge tape):
-bpi density Bits-per-inch (i.e. 800/1600/6250).
-feet size Size of reel in feet (i.e. 1200/2400).
-reel num Beginning reel number for a restarted copy.
-buf Uses double buffered I/O.
-o Specifies FSType-specific options.
NOTE
This command may not be supported for all FSTypes.
