RDUMP(8N) COMMAND REFERENCE RDUMP(8N)

NAME
rdump - file system dump across the network

SYNOPSIS
     /etc/rdump [ key [ argument ... ] filesystem ]

DESCRIPTION
Rdump copies to magnetic tape all files changed in the
filesystem after a certain date. The command is identical
in operation to dump(8) except that the f key should be
specified and the file supplied should be of the form
     machine.user:device.

Rdump uses rexec to creates a remote server, /etc/rmt, on
the client machine to access the tape device.

To gain access to the device you wish to dump to on the
remote machine, you must do two things:

First, set up remote access for the root user of the client
machine on the remote machine. This is done in either the
/.rhosts or /etc/hosts.equiv files of the remote machine.
See rhosts(5n) or hosts.equiv(5n). This allows you to
execute the needed dump command as root on the remote
     machine.

Second, assign the specified device (/dev/tc, /dev/rdf,
etc.) to root on the remote machine. See assign(1).

DIAGNOSTICS
Same as dump(8) with some additional network related
     messages.

RETURN VALUE
     [0] Rdump was successful.

     [1] Rdump was unsuccessful.

[NP_WARN] An error warranting a warning message
                    occurred. Execution continues.

CAVEATS
If permissions are not correct on the remote machine, rdump
displays cryptic remote tape server error messages.
