CHSH(1) COMMAND REFERENCE CHSH(1) NAME chsh - change default login shell SYNOPSIS chsh name [ shell ] DESCRIPTION The chsh command is similar to passwd(1) except that it is used to change the login shell field of the password file rather than the password entry. If no shell is specified then the shell reverts to the default login shell /bin/sh. Otherwise, any executable file can be specified as the shell. If the full path to a file is not specified, for example, the name does not start with /, chsh will prepend /bin. EXAMPLES An example of this command: chsh bill /bin/csh changes the (sh) shell of the user bill to /bin/csh. CAVEATS If the file exists and is executable, it is installed as your login shell; make sure you really want that file as your shell. An error may make login impossible and superuser intervention necessary. SEE ALSO chfn(1), csh(1CSH), passwd(1), and passwd(5). Printed 4/6/89 1
