LPDSTAT(1MDQS) COMMAND REFERENCE LPDSTAT(1MDQS)

NAME
lpdstat - Berkeley LPD print queue status via MDQS

SYNOPSIS
     lpdstat host [ -l ] [ -P printer ] [ job# ... ] [ user ... ]

DESCRIPTION
The lpdstat command gives queue status information for a
printer on a remote host which is running the Berkeley LPD
spooling system; lpdstat queries the lpd daemon on the
remote host to examine its spooling area and to report the
status of the specified jobs or all jobs associated with a
     user.

Invoked without any arguments lpdstat reports on any jobs
currently in the printer queue. A -P flag may be used to
specify a particular printer, otherwise the default line
printer is used (or the value of the PRINTER variable in the
environment). The default printer is defined as lp.

All other arguments supplied are interpreted as user names
or job numbers to filter out only those jobs of interest.

For each job submitted lpdstat reports the user's name,
current rank in the queue, the names of files comprising the
job, the job identifier (a number which may be supplied to
lpdrm(1) for removing a specific job), and the total size in
bytes. Job ordering is dependent on the algorithm used to
scan the spooling directory and is supposed to be FIFO
(First in First Out). File names comprising a job may be
unavailable (when lpr(1MDQS) is used as a sink in a
pipeline) in which case the file is indicated as "(standard
     input)".

OPTIONS
-l Invoke the long output format printing
information about each of the files
comprising the job. Normally, only as much
information as will fit on one line is
                    displayed.

-P printer Specify the printer on the remote host from
which queue status is to be returned
(otherwise the default printer, or the value
of the PRINTER variable in the environment is
                    used).

EXAMPLES
The following example shows how to get the short status
format from the default printer (or the printer specified by
the environmental variable "PRINTER") on the remote host
     pogo.

LPDSTAT(1MDQS) COMMAND REFERENCE LPDSTAT(1MDQS)

Assume you are working on the workstation wicket and you
wish to get the status of the printer on the workstation
pogo. At the wicket[21] prompt, type

          lpdstat pogo

the following information is then returned by the system:

lp is ready and printing Rank Owner Job
          Files Total Size
          active garyb 776 lpdstat.c 6233 bytes

The second example shows how to get the long status format
for the printer lp, running on the remote host pogo. The job
was submitted by the host wicket.

     At the wicket[22] prompt type

          lpdstat pogo -l -P lp

the following information is then returned by the system:

lp is ready and printing garyb: active
          [job 777wicket]
               lpdsend.c 18611 bytes
               copycnt.c 758 bytes
               netopen.c 3198 bytes

RETURN VALUE
     [NO_ERRS] Command completed without error.

[USAGE] Incorrect command line syntax. Execution
                    terminated.

[NP_ERR] An error occurred that was not a system
                    error. Execution terminated.

CAVEATS
Remote shell (rsh) privileges are required in order to
display status from a remote printer.

Things can change while lpdstat is running; the picture it
gives is only a close approximation of reality.

SEE ALSO
The following manual pages are available on the host which
uses MDQS to spool a request using the lpdsend server:
