NAME

lmgrd.ste − flexible license manager daemon

SYNOPSIS

lmgrd.ste −c license_file [ −t timeout_interval ] [ −l logfile ] [ −s timestamp_interval ] [ −2 −p ] [ −v ] [ −x lmdown ] [ −x lmremove ]

DESCRIPTION

lmgrd.ste is the main daemon program for Sun’s FLEXlm distributed license management system.  When invoked, it looks for a license file that contains all the information about vendors and features.

The lmgrd.ste daemon is started by executing the script /etc/rc2.d/S85lmgrd.  While you must be a superuser to execute this script, the script will run lmgrd.ste as owned by the default user nobody.  To change lmgrd.ste to be run by a different non-privileged user, run the adjust_flexlm_owner script before running /etc/rc2.d/S85lmgrd.

OPTIONS

−c license_file
Use the specified license_file.

−t timeout_interval
Sets a timeout interval in seconds during which redundant daemons must complete their connections to each other. The default value is 10 seconds. A larger value might be desirable if the daemons are being run on busy systems or a very heavily loaded network.

−l logfile Writes the debug log to logfile.

−s timestamp_interval
Specifies the logfile timestamp interval in minutes. The default is 360 minutes.

-2  -p Restricts usage of the lmdown, lmreread, and lmremove utilities to a license administrator who is by default root.  If there is a group called lmadmin, use is restricted to only members of that group. If root is not a member of this group, then root does not have permission to use lmdown, lmreread, and lmremove.

−v Prints lmgrd.ste’s version number and copyright and exits.

-x lmdown
Disallows the lmdown command so no user can run lmdown.  If lmdown is disabled, stop lmgrd.ste by typing a kill pid command (do not use the -9 argument to the kill command).

-x lmremove
Disallows the lmremove command so no user can run lmremove.

ENVIRONMENT

lmgrd.ste needs to know the path to the license file. The path can be specified with the -c license_file option or by setting the LM_LICENSE_FILE environment variable. Otherwise, the default location is used.

NOTES

Sun uses the lmgrd.ste license manager daemon, which is identical to FLEXlm’s lmgrd license manager daemon.
