NAME

xied − image reader operation utility/image editing tool for X Window System

SYNOPSIS

xied [ −cmd path ] [ −dev dev_file ] [ −display display ] [ −geometry geometry ] files ...

DESCRIPTION

xied command is a utility that monitors the reading in of images under X Window System from image readers such as the NWP-534/540/548, NWP-5601/02, and provides the user with the ability to edit or process these images, if necessary.  The image from the image reader can be read in and displayed on the screen, sent to the printer or saved as a file through interactive procedures using the mouse.  It is also possible to edit or process input images from image readers or files and then save the result to a file. 

OPTIONS

−cmd path
Specifies the path for the scn command, which is called internally by the xied command.  The default is /usr/sony/bin/scn. 

−dev dev_file
Specifies the device file opened by the scn command, which is called internally by the xied command.  The default is set to /dev/ir for the NWP-534/540 black-and-white image readers.  The default is /dev/scsi06 for the NWP-548 , NWP-5601/02 color image reader. 

−geometry geometry
Specifies the initial window size.

−display display
Specifies the name of the X server to be used. (See X(1).) 

OPERATIONS

Pointer operations: Most operations use the left mouse button. 

Pull-down menus:

File This menu is used to read in, write, print and quit files. 

Edit This menu is used to undo the preceding editing function, and to cut, copy and paste the selected data. 

Arrange
This menu is used to apply processing effects to the selected data.

Parameter
Separate menu items can be selected to set the grid status, brush shape, corner radius, polygons and system information.

Scan This menu contains items that can be selected to perform various image reader operations. 

Font, Size, Style
These menus contain various items that allow a user to specify attributes when inputting text.

NOTES

When performing editing operations, the visual class and number of bits of the image data become equivalent to or below those of the display board currently in use.  Therefore, be cautious when you edit image data of a higher quality than your display board supports. 
In the case of PseudoColor or DirectColor, the color map of this tool are used for all manipulated images. This must be kept in mind when reading in image data containing many similar colors.
In 4 bits or 8 bits display board, TrueColor, DirectColor, StaticColor classes are not suppoorted.
