scn − image reader drive program

SYNOPSIS

scn [ options...  ] [ > outfile ]

DESCRIPSION

scn is a command to read images from image readers NWP-534, NWP-540, NWP-544, NWP-548, NWP-5601+NWP-5602 according to the specified mode and to write on the standard output. 

OPTIONS

−ar[ea] N
specifies the area of image. N should be selected from the list below.  Default is A4 size. (NWP-544’s default is A3.)  Non standard size can be used by specifying 0 here and use −wi option.

−wi[ndow] sx sy wd ht
specify the positions and sizes of the image to be read in. It is used with −ar 0 option.

−res[olution] res
specifies the resolution of image reading. res is either 400, 300(default), 200, 150, 100 or 75 (dpi.)  400 is invalid for NWP-534.

−noae Inhibits AE (Automatic Exposure) function.  For monochrome image readers (NWP-534/540/544), −li option is invalid unless −noae is used.  −noae is invalid for a color

−li[ght] num
specifies the brightness of read image. Default brightness is 0. For monochrome image readers (NWP-534/540/544), this option is invalid unless −noae is used.  num should be selected from the list below.

−sc[ale] num
specifies magnification ratio if it should be changed. It should be 50% - 200%. Default value is 100% (no size change.)

−Sc[ale] sx sy
specify magnification ratios if they are to be changed. They should be 50% - 200%. Default value is 100% (no size change.)

−mi[rror]
Mirror mode image reading.

−rev[erse]
Reverse mode image reading.

−fo[rmat] type
specifies the format of output file. It should be either xwd, scn, tiff or cdff.  The default format is the raw data format without any header. 

−h[eader]
Output image data is in scn format. 
This option will not be supported by next version of scn.  Use −format scn. 

−v[erbose]
Displays messages.

−dev[ice] dev_file
specifies the device file of the image reader. The default device file for monochrome image readers NWP-534/540 is /dev/ir.  The default device file for color image reader NWP-548/5601+5602 is /dev/scsi06.  The default device file for A3 image reader NWP-544 is /dev/ib. 

−help Writes description of usage on the standard error output. 

The options below are for segment.  They are not supported for color image reader (NWP-548) and A3 image reader (NWP-544.) 

−se[gment] sx sy wd ht
specify the positions and sizes of the segment.

−Rev[erse] irev orev
specify positive/negative mode of inside or outside of the segment. irev and orev are either 0 (positive) or 1 (negative.) 
 

EXIT CODE

The exit codes of scn are listed below. 

EXIT CODE  definition
0Normal.
1Image reader malfunction.
2Image data is too large.
3Specified option(s) not supported.
4Image reader is busy.

NOTES

The color image reader NWP-548 timeouts, if there is no access for a while during image reading.  This may be avoided by reducing the load of the host. 
When scanning is stopped on color printer image reader NWP-5601 + NWP-5602, rescan the image after confirming onL light on NWP-5601 is turned off.
For monochrome image readers, there are some limitations of the image data size which can be read: 2 Mbytes for NWP-534 and 3 Mbytes for NWP-540.
