conspw(LM) 19 June 1992 conspw(LM) Name conspw - file that contains passwords for client filesharing. Description The /usr/lib/lm/conspw file contains a list of server names the LAN Man- ager Client has trusted access to. It also contains the machine password to use when attempting to establish a trusted connection. Only XENIX-NET servers allow trusted access. Each file entry contains two fields: a server machine name and an unencrypted machine password. Fields are separated by a colon ``:''. Entries are separated by a NEWLINE. To add entries, use the mkconspw utility or a text editor. To remove entries, use a text editor. The LAN Manager Client reads the /usr/lib/lm/conspw file when the client is enabled. If changes are made to the file, they do not take effect until the client is stopped and started, or the system is rebooted using init 6. When a local user first uses the network path //server/path, the local system attempts to establish a trusted connection with the server ma- chine. The system sends its own machine name to the server, along with the machine password contained in the /usr/lib/lm/conspw file entry for the server machine (server). The XENIX-NET server checks its /usr/lib/xnet/cdf file to verify that this client machine is allowed trusted access. An entry in /usr/lib/lm/conspw with an asterisk ``*'' as a server machine name matches any server machine; however, an entry that exactly matches a server name overrides an ``*'' entry. The filesharing client ignores duplicate server names in /usr/lib/lm/conspw.
