SW(1m)
NAME
sw -- the HP Support Watch user interface
SYNOPSIS
/usr/diag/sw/sw
DESCRIPTION
HP Support Watch is an early warning system that links HP 9000 Series 800 systems via modem to the expertise of the Hewlett-Packard support organization. It assists in transforming unscheduled downtime into scheduled maintenance:
records a history of system configurations and activity; locates potential problems with peripherals and memory before they occur; transmits information, errors, and warnings to the HP support team; mails messages to designated users.
HP Support Watch is a proactive approach to support. It can be scheduled to run automatically on a daily basis. The schedule, as well as other parameters and limits, can be customized for each customer environment. Only the root user can enter or change configuration information in HP Support Watch. Non-root users can access all other areas of the user interface.
As part of the installation process, running sw asks for required information to configure HP Support Watch. After that, sw displays the Support Watch Main Menu, which includes access to the two subsystems -- Remote Watch (rw) and Predictive Support (psconfig):
Run the Remote Watch ’rw’ interface
to view Remote Watch configuration reports or e-mail archives, get help on Remote Watch messages, or configure the following: schedule LAN thresholds
normal mail destination disk thresholds
critical mail destination message suppression
how long reports are stored
Run the Predictive Support ’psconfig’ interface
to run Predictive Support, generate reports or initiate Response Center transfers, or configure the following: customer information schedule
transfer information memory coverage
peripheral devices coverage code word
reports output options utilities
Set the mail address
to assign one or more user names to receive all mail from Remote Watch and Predictive Support. The default destination is root. To mail to multiple user names, separate them with commas and/or spaces (for example, "root, jzw, pilger@hpsys3"). To view or modify unique user names for Remote Watch alarms or messages, select the Remote Watch "rw" interface and use the "General parameters submenu." To view or modify unique user names for Predictive Support messages, select the Predictive Support "psconfig" interface and use the "Reports Output Options" menu under "Configuration Options."
Currently, when Predictive Support is installed on a Series 800 cluster, fault analysis and access to the Predictive Support user interface occur only on the server, not on clients.
