YPINIT(1M)  —  Series 300 Only

NAME

ypinit - build and install Yellow Pages databases

SYNOPSIS

/usr/etc/yp/ypinit -m
/usr/etc/yp/ypinit -s YP_server_name

DESCRIPTION

The ypinit shell script creates the Yellow Pages (YP) databases on either a master or slave YP server.  The ypinit shell script asks a few, self-explanatory questions and reports success or failure to the terminal.

Refer to ypfiles(4) and ypserv(1M) for an overview of the YP.

Options

−m Create the local host as the master server to all maps (databases) provided in the YP domain (see domainname(1)). All maps are built from scratch either from information provided to ypinit at runtime or from ASCII files in /etc. All such files should be complete and unabbreviated, unlike how they may exist on a YP client machine. (See passwd(4) for examples of abbreviated files.)  See ypmake(1M) for more information on how the YP databases are built on the master server. Note, ypinit uses the NOPUSH=1 option when invoking ypmake(1M) so the newly formed maps are not immediately copied to slave servers.

−s Create  the YP databases on a slave server by copying the databases from an existing YP server that serves the YP domain.

The YP_server_name argument should be the host name of either the master server for all the maps or a server on which the maps are current and stable.

DIAGNOSTICS

Exit code 0 is returned when no errors occur; otherwise, the exit code is 1.
