SIcons(5) (RM400 only) SIcons(5)

NAME
SIcons - package for configuring the console

DESCRIPTION
pkgadd SIcons is used to configure and install a multiuser (DPTG) con-
sole while pkgrm SIcons deinstalls it again.

The SIcons package can be used when connecting a 9766, BA80, BA47 con-
sole or a PC with corresponding emulation. The defaults for the con-
     sole parameters are as follows:

          8 Bit
          1 Stopbit
          no Parity
          19200 Baud

SIcons is an optional package and cannot be updated automatically or
installed over. The system must be restarted after each installation
and deinstallation or deinstallation followed directly by a reinstal-
     lation.

It is also possible to install the SIcons package from the console
using cdinst. However, this type of installation only stores the pack-
age (pkgtrans) under /var/spool/pkg and allows all products from part4
of the installation CD to be installed simultaneously.

For the complete SIcons installation, the pkgadd command which gen-
erally installs the packages stored under /var/spool/pkg must be
     called explicitly.

A complete SIcons installation must not be carried out on the console
terminal. The DPTG protocol must be activated, i.e. after the SIdptg2
package has been installed idbuild must be run and the system must be
     started.

How the DPTG console should be configured (e.g. number of windows,
printer ports, country-specific keyboard settings, etc.) is queried
     during the installation.

Directly after the SIcons package has been installed successfully, an
unloaded terminal can be loaded (see under manual intervention). The
correctness of the firmware selected during the installation can
therefore be checked. Otherwise, a DPTG console in VT-PROM mode (i.e.
not loaded) is loaded on a system with SIcons installed when the sys-
tem is started. Manual intervention [change to loader in the setup
menu or switching on/off the terminal (switching the keyboard off and
on again is not sufficient)] is required in this phase of the booting
     process.

Note: The firmware is always selected using the installation parame-
ters. The setting for selecting the firmware in the setup menu
on the workstation has no effect.

A change in the loading program (e.g. after changing the keyboard) can
also be made by issuing the pkgadd command for SIcons again, if SIcons
has already been installed in full.

Deinstallation can only take place successfully when the console ports
are not active. Interactive support is provided for aborting the cor-
responding processes and continuing the pkgrm.

Note: If the specifications are not followed, inconsistencies may
             arise in the system status.
