NAME
lockd-clnt - daemon for NLM clients

SYNOPSIS
     lockd-clnt

DESCRIPTION
lockd-clnt must run on every NLM client system. To allow NLM client
processes to work, they must be supported by lockd-clnt. lockd-clnt
     fulfills the following important functions:

     - When the client executes its first NLM job, lockd-clnt ascertains
the address of the NLM server. The address is stored by the client,
so that it will not have to be obtained from lockd-clnt again,
except in special cases (e.g. server crash).

     - Registration of the NLM server with the statd status daemon.

     - Indication of which client is being assessed by the NLM server. The
NLM server list is compared periodically with the mount table. If
an entry for an NFS was deleted from the mount table and locks were
set on files from this NFS, lockd-clnt informs the status daemon
statd that the relevant NLM server no longer requires monitoring.

     - Establishment of an RPC service which is called by statd when res-
tarting after a client crash. This service resets the client locks
        on the server.

DIAGNOSTICS
lockd-clnt restarts automatically when NFS is brought up. If the dae-
mon is not running, you should check the system log file for error
     messages from lockd-clnt.
