     NAME
umask - set file-creation mode mask

     SYNOPSIS
          umask [ ooo ]

     DESCRIPTION
The user file-creation mode mask is set to screen
permissions for files and directories created by the user.
The three octal digits refer to read/write/execute
permissions for owner, group, and others, respectively (see
chmod(2) and umask(2)). The value of each specified digit
is subtracted from the corresponding digit specified by the
system when it creates a file (see creat(2)). For example,
umask 022 removes group and others write permission; files
normally created with mode 666 become mode 644.

If ooo is omitted, the current value of the mask is printed.

Umask is recognized and executed by the shell (sh(1)) and
          the C shell (csh(1)).

Note that the shell and any programs running under it always
create files with 666 permissions. This means that if you
need execution permissions, you must add them explicitly
          with chmod.

Shell programs must have read and execute permissions in
          order to run.

     EXAMPLES
Under the shell, the user file-creation mode mask has this
          effect:

Umask Mode of all files created

               000 666

               101 666

               102 664

               026 640
