acmsadmin(1)  —  Commands

Digital

NAME

acmsadmin − Runs the ACMSxp distributed management command interface utility

SYNOPSIS

acmsadmin [command | -i file_spec]

ARGUMENTS

commandSpecifies one of the ACMSxp directives.  Use the help command to see the directives supported.  The utility executes the command, displays any responses, and returns control to the shell level from which it ran.

-i file_specAccesses the initialization file specified, executes the management commands it contains, and displays its prompt to accept interactive command input.

If no arguments are present, the utility initializes itself and displays its prompt to accept interactive command input.

DESCRIPTION

The acmsadmin command runs the ACMSxp distributed management utility for managing ACMSxp transaction processing system and application entities.  The utility displays the following prompt when it is ready to accept commands:

csh> acmsadmin
acmsadmin>

Use the help command for tutorial and reference information. Use the help help command for information on accessing help information. Use exit or quit to return to the operating system prompt.

Environment Variables

If the ACMS_ADMIN_NAMESPACE_DIR environment variable is defined, its definition is used in forming the name of the TPsystem to be managed.  If it is not defined, the software uses the following default namespace directory when forming a full TPsystem name:

"/.:/acmsxp"

If the ACMS_LOG_FILE environment variable is defined, event messages are written to the file specified in the definition.  This is the local client log file of the management director.

Steps to Follow

To run the utility, follow these steps:

1.Log in to a system in the same DCE cell as the TPsystems that you are going to manage.

2.Log in to DCE under a principal that has permissions to perform the management operations you need to do.

3.Ensure that the ACMSxp software environment is set up.

Run the acms_set_version script to define environment variables and point to the correct executables.  This requires that you know the location of the version you want to run. Look for a /prod/bin subdirectory of an acmsxpnnn directory in the /usr/bin tree or ask your system manager.  For example:

csh> source /usr/opt/ACMSXPV031/bin/acms_set_version.csh
ACMSxp V3.1 for Digital UNIX
Copyright (c) 1993, 1997 by Digital Equipment Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
Using ACMSxp in /usr/opt/ACMSXPV301
csh>

The script sets up environment variables and pointers to the proper executables to run.

EXAMPLES

The following command runs the acmsadmin utility with an initialization file:

% acmsadmin -i my_file.init
acmsadmin>

The command accesses the specified file in the working directory, executes the acmsadmin commands it contains, and displays the program prompt.
