NAME

volencap, vol-reconfig − Encapsulate disks or partitions

SYNOPSIS

/usr/sbin/volencap [ -g diskgroup ] [ -c] [ -p volprefix ] { diskname | partition_name }

/usr/sbin/volencap -k [ diskname | partition name ] [ -a ]

/sbin/vol-reconfig

DESCRIPTION

The volencap script identifies any partitions on the specified disk that could be used for file systems and then generates LSM volumes to cover those areas on the disk.  This process is known as encapsulation. volencap generates the necessary LSM commands and files to convert partitions in use to LSM volumes. In the case of partitions that contain file systems, the entries in /etc/fstab will be modified to use the new volume devices.

The LSM command scripts created by the volencap command are executed by running /sbin/vol-reconfig.  /sbin/vol-reconfig can be run manually or /etc/inittab can be modified so that the changes are made during the next system reboot. The volinstall(8) script optionally adds /sbin/vol-reconfig to /etc/inittab.

Refer to the DEC OSF/1 Logical Storage Manager guide for more details.

FLAGS

-g diskgroup
Place the encapsulated disk into the disk group specified by disk group ID or disk group name.

-cThis option tells the command to create a disk group if the one specified does not exist.  This option is useful only if a disk group is also supplied using the -g  option.

-p volprefix
This option tells the command to use the volprefix specified as the prefix for LSM volume names generated. This is useful if the LSM volume names generated already exists.

-kThis option tells the command to remove any previous encapsulation command for the given disk or partition name. If the -a option was given encapsulation commands for all disks or partitions that have been generated till now are removed.
