Why doesn't the BeOS work with my Virge-based graphics card?

If you have a Virge card with 2MB or less video memory, this is most likely caused by a defect in the BeOS Release 3, which is fixed in BeOS Release 3.1. BeOS Release 3.1 is a free update, available online, but since you can't install the BeOS Release 3 without a working graphics card, contact Customer Service, custservice@be.com, and we'll send you the updated CD.

Another possibility is you have a Virge VX-based card, which the BeOS does not (yet) support at all. Be sure to check the hardware compatibility listing for the most up-to-date graphics card compatibility information:
