As it turns out, 3Com makes two Ethernet cards with very similar model numbers, the 3c905 and the 3c905B. The cards are basically similar in the basic features, though the "B" card is more modern and does support more advanced features.
The problem is the cards are different enough at the hardware level that the existing BeOS 3c905 driver doesn't work with it. We have an updated driver that supports this card in the BeOS Release 3.1, a free update available online, but since you can't download the update without a working network card, contact Customer Service, custservice@be.com, and we'll send you the updated CD.
