The BeOS is currently available only in English. In response to the overwhelming interest in the BeOS in Japan, the BeOS has Unicode support throughout the system.

The BeOS utilizes the Unicode UTF-8 encoding format (the format used by Java) within all text objects and within the font system. You can read some of the details in a Be Newsletter article, Unicode UTF-8.

This support is a major step towards a fully international version of the BeOS, and further enhancements in this area will be introduced in the future.
