HWCONF(8-BSD) RISC/os Reference Manual HWCONF(8-BSD)

NAME
hwconf - get or set hardware configuration information

SYNOPSIS
     /etc/hwconf [ -g ] [ -s promenv_name promenv_value ]

DESCRIPTION
hwconf is used to get or set hardware configuration informa-
tion. The specific contents of the hardware configuration
is dependent upon the particular release of the kernel and
the hardware configuration. Typical contents include MIPS
chip types and revision numbers, MIPS board types and revi-
sion numbers and serial numbers, and non-volatile RAM,
NVRAM, environment variables names and values.

Only the values of the NVRAM environment variables may be
altered. Any user may examine the hardware configuration
information but only the super-user may change the NVRAM
     variables.

OPTIONS
-s resets promenv_name promenv_value and then prints the
          original values.

-g tells hwconf to refetch infrmation from the kernel
          after a -s update.

DIAGNOSTICS
Various messages about unknown parameters, self-explanatory.
