ASSIGN.CLASSES(5) COMMAND REFERENCE ASSIGN.CLASSES(5)
NAME
assign.classes - defined classes of devices for assignment
SYNOPSIS
/etc/assign.classes
DESCRIPTION
This file defines the grouping of devices for assignment by
the assign(1) command. Devices are grouped into classes in
order that all devices corresponding to an actual physical
device, for example, raw and cooked versions, are assigned
as a unit. Assignment changes the ownership of the devices.
Each line defines one class and is of the form
class ... = device ...
where classes are site defined names that correspond to the
grouping of devices on the line, and devices are full path
names, usually of devices in /dev. The equal sign separates
class names from device names. All names are separated by
spaces or tabs. Class names that are listed in more than
one line are termed generic class names, and will be checked
by assign in the order listed in this file.
EXAMPLES
The following defines classes mt3 and mt4, for mag tape
devices 3 and 4, with a generic class name tape.
mt3 tape = /dev/rmt03 /dev/nrmt03 /dev/nmt03 /dev/mt03
mt4 tape = /dev/rmt04 /dev/nrmt04 /dev/nmt04 /dev/mt04
