NAME
uname - print name of current system
SYNOPSIS
uname [ -A ] [ -P ] [ -a ] [ -m ] [ -n ] [ -p ] [ -r ] [ -s
] [ -v ]
DESCRIPTION
Uname prints the current system name on standard output. It
is mainly useful to determine which system one is using.
The options cause selected information returned by uname(2)
to be printed.
OPTIONS
-A Print all the information for all options.
-P Print all the information for the software packages
installed.
-a Print all the information for options -m, -n, -r, -s,
and -v.
-m Print the machine hardware name.
-n Print the nodename (the nodename is set with
sethostname(2)).
-p Print the name(s) of the software packages installed.
-r Print the operating system release.
-s Print the system name (default).
-v Print the operating system version.
EXAMPLES
The following example prints the machine name.
$ uname -m
Tek6130
FILES
/usr/lib/bom directory where software packaging
info is.
