YPPASSWDD(8C) COMMAND REFERENCE YPPASSWDD(8C)

NAME
yppasswdd, rpc.yppasswdd - server for modifying Yellow Pages
     password file

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/etc/rpc.yppasswdd file [ -m arg1 arg2 ... ]

DESCRIPTION
The server yppasswdd handles password change requests from
yppasswd(1); it changes a password entry in file, which is
assumed to be in the format of passwd(5). An entry in file
will only be changed if the password presented by
yppasswd(1) matches the encrypted password of that entry.

OPTIONS
If the -m option is given, then after file is modified, a
make(1) will be performed in /etc/yp. Any arguments
following the flag will be passed to make.

This server is not run by default, nor can it be started up
from inetd(8n). If you wish to enable remote password
updating for the Yellow Pages, then an entry for yppasswdd
should be put in the /etc/rc file of the host serving as the
master for the Yellow Pages passwd file.

EXAMPLE
If the Yellow Pages password file is stored as
/etc/yp/src/passwd, then to have password changes propagated
immediately, the server should be invoked as

          /usr/etc/rpc.yppasswdd /etc/yp/src/passwd -m passwd DIR=/etc/yp/src

In this case, src is the Yellow Pages' domain name.

See the System Administration manual for setting up
/etc/passwd entries. Note that the passwd file must contain
the entry of nobody with the user ID of -2.

FILES
     /etc/yp/Makefile

CAVEATS
The rc.local entry for yppasswd(1) is commented out; if you
want Yellow Pages password information, uncomment the
information in rc.local; (rc.local is a script that holds
commands which are pertinent only to a specific site. The
command rc.local is invoked as part of the execution of rc).
