HC(4) COMMAND REFERENCE HC(4) NAME hc - hard copy interface for workstations DESCRIPTION Hc provides the interface to any Centronics type parallel interface devices such as line printers, hard copy units, plotters or other output devices. When the device is opened or closed, no page ejects are generated. Four styles of interface are provided. The number in parentheses indicates the minor number associated with each one for the first interface in slot. For slots with a second hardcopy interface add one to the given number. hc (0) passes data through with no change. uhc (2) folds the normal 96-character set into a 64- character set, mapping lower case characters into upper case. chc (4) inserts a carriage return before each newline (linefeed) character. uchc (6) both folds the character set and inserts carriage returns. An ioctl call is also available to change the device operating mode after it is open. The request value of the call is the same as the minor numbers given above. The driver does not interpret any control characters. It also does not make any assumptions about form width, form length, tab stop positions, etc. FILES /dev/hc /dev/uhc /dev/chc /dev/uchc DIAGNOSTICS ENXIO, EBUSY, EIO, ENOTTY SEE ALSO lpr(1), ioctl(2), and mknod(8).
