RRESTORE(8N) COMMAND REFERENCE RRESTORE(8N) NAME rrestore - restore a file system dump across the network SYNOPSIS /etc/rrestore [ key ] [ filename ... ] DESCRIPTION Rrestore obtains from magnetic tape files saved by a previous dump(8). The command is identical in operation to restore(8) except that the f key should be specified and the file supplied should be of the form machine.user:device. Rrestore creates a remote server /etc/rmt on the client machine to access the tape device. To gain access to the device you wish to restore to on the remote machine, you must do two things: First, set up remote access for the root user of the client machine on the remote machine. This is done in either the /.rhosts or /etc/hosts.equiv files of the remote machine. See rhosts(5n) or hosts.equiv(5n). This allows you to execute the needed restore command as root on the remote machine. Second, assign the specified device (/dev/tc, /dev/rdf, etc.) to root on the remote machine. See assign(1). DIAGNOSTICS Same as restore(8) with a few extra related to the network. RETURN VALUE [0] Rrestore was successful. [1] Rrestore was unsuccessful. [NP_WARN] An error warranting a warning message occurred. Execution continues. CAVEATS If permissions are not correct on the remote machine, rrestore displays cryptic remote tape server error messages. SEE ALSO restore(8) and rmt(8n). Printed 5/19/88 1
