MKBOOT(8) COMMAND REFERENCE MKBOOT(8)

NAME
mkboot - install boot monitor in maintenance partition of
     hard disk

SYNOPSIS
     /etc/mkboot special file

DESCRIPTION
During system bootstrapping, the ROMs read the Boot Monitor
from the maintenance partition of the primary hard disk.
Mkboot installs the Boot Monitor in the maintenance
partition, ready to be read by the ROMs. The Boot Monitor
     is in the file /etc/diskboot.

Special is the o partition of the disk on which file is
     being installed.

The Boot Monitor must be installed on the first hard disk to
allow bootstrapping; it will be installed there by the
buildroot facility of miniroot, using mkboot. The Boot
Monitor should be installed on every hard disk to provide
     alternate bootstrapping paths.

Installation must be performed by the superuser since the o
     partition is not generally writeable.

EXAMPLES
To install the Boot Monitor on the maintenance partition of
the first optional disk (ds06), type the following:

          /etc/mkboot /dev/rds06o /etc/diskboot

FILES
     /etc/diskboot
                  the Boot Monitor
