HALT(8) COMMAND REFERENCE HALT(8) NAME halt - stop the processor SYNOPSIS /etc/halt [ -n ] [ -q ] [ -y ] DESCRIPTION Halt brings UTek to an orderly completion. The processor is effectively halted, although the actual state depends on the hardware present. The machine does not reboot. Halt should only be used in single-user mode. In multi-user mode use shutdown(8) with the "-h" option. OPTIONS -n Prevents disk synchronization before stopping. -q Causes a quick halt, no graceful shutdown is attempted. -y This option is needed if you are trying to halt the system from a dialup (i.e. not on the console). RETURN VALUE [NO_ERRS] Command completed without error. [USAGE] Incorrect command line syntax. Execution terminated. [NP_ERR] An error occurred that was not a system error. Execution terminated. [P_WARN] A system error occurred. Execution continues. See intro(2) for more information on system errors. SEE ALSO reboot(8) and shutdown(8). Printed 5/12/88 1
