SNAPSHOT(1) — USER COMMANDS
NAME
snapshot - capture some or all of a screen and save to a raster file
SYNOPSIS
snapshot [ −f default_file ] [ −c default_command ]
AVAILABILITY
Available with the OpenWindows environment. For information about installing OpenWindows, refer to the OpenWindows Installation and Start-Up Guide.
DESCRIPTION
snapshot is an OpenWindows XView utility that allows users to save images from their terminal screens into a raster file. The user may choose to take a picture of the entire screen, or any rectangular portion of the screen.
OPTIONS
-f default_file
Preloads the file named in the text field.
-c default_command
Preloads the print command named in the text field.
USAGE
snapshot operates using a combination of control panel buttons and text fields to define the actions performed and the files used.
Control Panel Buttons
The upper portion of the snapshot tool contains a panel with three command buttons, as described below:
Snap >
Selecting the Snap > button brings up a menu with the following options:
Screen
Saves a copy of the entire screen as a raster image in the specified file.
Region
Prompts the user to define a rectangle on the screen to be saved as a raster image in the specified file.
Window
Prompts the user to select a window to be saved as a raster image in the specified file.
Again
Repeats the last button selected.
Sends the file specified in the directory and file text fields to the printer using the filter specified in the print using field.
View Snap
Displays the file, centered on the screen. This command allows the user to view the file before printing.
Text Fields
Below the control panel are two text fields that allow the user to specify a directory and file name, and a print using text field that can be filled using options selected from an abbreviated button stack. There are also three choice items that allow the user to:
Delay the snapshot by some number of seconds.
Remove the snapshot panel before the picture is snapped.
Turn on an alarm bell that rings when the snap is finished.
BUGS
When the delay snapshot choice item is activated, the time it takes for the snapshot panel to disappear is dependent upon the response time of the application it obscures. The user should be careful to set a long enough delay to allow the panel to disappear completely, before the snapshot is taken.
