SYNOPSIS

snapshot [ standard XVview command line arguments ]

AVAILABILITY

Available with the OpenWindows environment.  For information about installing OpenWindows, refer to the OpenWindows Installation and Start-Up Guide.

DESCRIPTION

snapshot is an OpenWindows XView utility that allows users to save images from their terminal screens into a raster file.  The user may choose to take a picture of the entire screen, or any rectangular portion of the screen.

OPTIONS

standard XView command line arguments
snapshot accepts standard XView command line arguments described in xview(1).

USAGE

snapshot operates using a combination of control panel buttons and text fields to define the actions performed and the files used.

Directory:
Contents is the directory name of the file used to store the snapshot.

File: Contents is the name of the file used to store the snapshot.

Timer: Delays the snapping of the picture for the specified number of seconds.

Timer Bell
Activated if the delay is set to two or more seconds. When selected, there is one beep for every second as a countdown before the snap is taken.

Hide Snapshot During Capture
The snapshot window is invisible before the snapshot is taken. The timer delay is forced to eight seconds.

Snap Window
Select the desired window using SELECT .  To cancel the selection, use ADJUST or MENU .

Snap Region
Select the region to be snapped by using SELECT and dragging the rectangle around the area.  Use ADJUST to take the snapshot or use MENU to cancel.

Snap Screen
Saves a copy of the entire screen as a raster image in the specified file.

View Snap
Displays the raster image taken in a window.

Print Snap
The menu displays two options.

Print Snap
Sends the file specified in the Directory: and File: fields to the printer with the current options.

Options The options displayed in the Print Options window follow.

Destination:
Printer is the default.  The printer name must be specified.

File Supply the directory and file names where the snapshot is to be stored.

Printer: Line where the printer name is specified.

Orientation:
Specifies the position of the printout.

Upright Specifies the snapshot will be printed up and down the page.  This is the default.

Sideways Specifies the snapshot will be across the page.

Position: Specifies the position of the snapshot on the page.

Width: Specifies how the size of the snapshot is to be handled.

Scale Specifies that the width and height will be scaled proportionally to fit on the page.

Size Specifies the width and height of the snapshot.  The proportions will not be distorted.

Double Size:
Specifies whether the snapshot is to be doubled in width and height.

Print Sends the snapshot to the print using the current options.

BUGS

When the delay snapshot choice item is activated, the time it takes for the snapshot panel to disappear is dependent upon the response time of the application it obscures.  The user should be careful to set a long enough delay to allow the panel to disappear completely, before the snapshot is taken.
