LICENSES(5)  —  FILE FORMATS

NAME

licenses − Sun software product license file

SYNOPSIS

/etc/licenses

DESCRIPTION

/etc/licenses is a file that contains license information for Sun software products that require password validation.  This mechanism limits use of the software to licensed workstations.

The license file contains lines with the following fields:

product nameA text string unique to the product.

hostidThe hexadecimal identifier for the host system (see hostid(1)).

password optionAn optional flag that indicates whether the password entry will be alphanumeric or contain only digits.  /1 indicates that both letters and numbers will be used in a password entry (the default); /2 indicates that only numbers will be used in a password entry.

passwordAn encrypted password supplied by Sun Microsystems.

Each line in /etc/licenses represents a separate software package.

PASSWORDS

To obtain a password for a licensed Sun product, contact Sun Microsystems at (1-800-872-4786).  Please be prepared with the license number from your software agreement and your system’s hostid number (obtained with the hostid(1) command).
