NAME

atmgetmac − get the MAC address assigned to an ATM interface

SYNOPSIS

/opt/SUNWatm/bin/atmgetmac interface driver | system | board

AVAILABILITY

SUNWatmu

DESCRIPTION

atmgetmac retrieves the MAC address of the specified ATM interface (specified in the form “device unit;” an example is ba0). The option flags determine from where the MAC address should be retrieved. In general, there are two different MAC addresses that may be considered: the address assigned to the system, or the address assigned to the ATM interface board.

OPTIONS

One of the following location flags should be specified:

driver This flag specifies that the driver should decide which MAC address to provide. This is the address that will be assigned to the system-defined variable $mac when used in the aarconfig(4) and laneconfig(4) files.  The driver chooses the board’s MAC address if one exists; if the board does not have its own MAC address, the driver chooses the system MAC address.  SunATM 1.0 boards do not have their own MAC addresses; SunATM 2.0 boards are assigned their own unique MAC addresses.

system This flag specifies that the system MAC address must be provided.

board This flag specifies that the board MAC address should be provided.  Use of this flag on an interface which does not have its own MAC address assigned (such as a SunATM 1.0 board) will result in an error.
