FDCK(8)  —  Pixar Programmer’s Manual

NAME

fdck− fast-disk file system check and repair

SYNOPSIS

fdck [ −cs ] [ −o bn bn bn . ] [ part part ... ]

DESCRIPTION

Fdck verifies the consistency of Fast-Disk filesystems, working interactively with the user to effect repairs.  Under normal circumstances, repairs will be necessary only in the aftermath of an operating system crash or a severely malfunctioning user application program.

Each part argument specifies a Fast-Disk partition, such as /dev/rmx0b.  If one or more part arguments are present, fdck will operate on each one in turn; otherwise, fdck will obtain a list of partitions with filesystems to check from /etc/fdmount (see fdmount(5)).

The following options are available:

−c Rearrange the placement of the files on disk to minimize frgamentation of the free list (see fd(5)). This function does not add or remove files, or alter their contents; it simply compacts the filesystem organization on disk to reduce the degree of fragmentation in the freelist.  The time required to perform this function varies with the amount of space occupied by disk files and the current fragmentation level.  The −c option will not be honored if the filesystem is not consistent.

−o bn bn bn .
Report ownership of disk blocks.  Each bn is a decimal disk block number.  The list is terminated by a period (.)  separated by a space from its adjacent arguments.

−s Query the kernel device driver for the size of the partition, and change the size of the filesystem to that value.
