DESCRIPTION
prestoctl_svc is a RPC based daemon that allows interrogation (and in some cases, administration) of a Prestoserve board and its driver. The daemon can either be started manually or automatically by inetd(8).
When active, the Prestoserve board and driver improve I/O performance to selected filesystems by reducing the disk I/O through caching of synchronous disk write operations to the Prestoserve cache.
The clients of this service include presto(1) and prestotool(1).
OPTIONS
−n Allow the size of the Prestoserve board cache and the state of the Prestoserve board (either UP or DOWN) to be changed by any network client via remote procedure calls. This options comes in handy when evaluating or demonstrating Prestoserve capabilities, but because the obvious security problems, it is not recommended for production systems.
FILES
/dev/pr0 generic Prestoserve control device.
/etc/inetd.conf where the new entry goes to start this daemon from inetd.
/etc/rpc where the prestoctl RPC program number to name mapping goes. If YP runs on the network, the YP master server’s /etc/rpc should be updated.
