NESTAT(8) — MAINTENANCE COMMANDS
NAME
nestat − Interphase Network Coprocessor Statistics
SYNOPSIS
nestat [ −h ] [ −a ] [ −s ] [ −z ] [ −i interval [ −n count ] ] device
AVAILABILITY
This command is available from the Interphase Network Coprocessor (NC) software distribution. This command is specific to this product. For information about installing the NC software distribution, refer to the Network Coprocessor Installation Manual.
DESCRIPTION
nestat displays detailed statistical information on the Network Coprocessor specified by the device argument, the ne(4) driver, and omni_nfsd(8) daemons. It can also be used to reinitialize this information. The device argument may be expressed in one of the following two forms: /dev/ne0 or ne0. Up to eight Network Coprocessor interfaces may be installed depending on the configuration of the system. Device names range from ne0 to ne7.
If no options are given the default action is to display Network Coprocessor CPU utilization and traffic statistics. Detailed information on the state of queues, the state of resources, and error occurrences in the Network Coprocessor and its driver can further be displayed using the -a option.
OPTIONS
−h Display a help menu that briefly describes the options available with the nestat command.
−s Display in succinct fashion. With this option, the output is stripped of the titles associated with every quantity displayed. The same quantities as in the default case are displayed, separated by spaces. This option is useful for piping the output of the nestat command into other commands that can thus easily parse the fields of the output.
−a Display all statistics (see below). By default, the display is limited to Network Coprocessor CPU utilization and traffic statistics.
−z Zero (i.e., reinitialize) statistics. This option is for use by the super-user only.
−i Use the next argument as an interval of time (in seconds), and periodically repeat the command using that interval as a period. Unless combined with the −n option, the command is repeated indefinitely.
−n Use the next argument as a number of times to iterate the command. This option is only meaningful when used in conjunction with the −i option, and is ignored otherwise.
DISPLAYS
In the long form (-a option), the display comprises three parts, termed Board Statistics, Host Statistics, and Host/Board Paired Statistics, respectively.
The Board Statistics part of the display pertains to the Network Coprocessor. It describes the state of various resources in the subsystem, such as buffer utilization, length of queues, cpu utilization, and network-related activity and error conditions.
The Host Statistics part provides summary information on the ne(4) driver as it relates to the activity level of the omni_nfsd(8) daemons.
The Host/Board Paired Statistics part of the display reports on the state of the rings used for command exchange between the Host and the Network Coprocessor. The NFS and data link traffic activities are also reported.
The standard display (no option) provides a subset of the long display.
