NAME

kcms_calibrate − Configure and calibrate an X11 window system for use with the KCMS library

SYNOPSIS

kcms_calibrate

AVAILABILITY

SUNWkcspg

DESCRIPTION

kcms_calibrate configures and calibrates an X11 window system for use with the KCMS library. Monitor calibration is performed by measuring the response of the red, green, and blue channels of a frame buffer and color monitor combination.

The user must have a physical calibration device which typically plugs into the workstation’s RS232 serial port or choose the XSolarisVisualGamma calibrator module.

The user will be asked to select a monitor profile from the monitors displayed in the scrolling list.  After selecting a monitor, the user then clicks on the Calibrate...  button to bring up the calibration window. Move this window to the centre of the monitor. Place the calibration device over the circular patch in the centre of the calibration window. Once the calibrator is in place select the Start button.  kcms_calibrate automatically searches for all applicable X11 visuals on the current window system and configures and calibrates each one as needed. PseudoColor and StaticColor visuals are assumed to require only one set of measurements.  TrueColor and DirectColor visuals if of depth 24 will be calibrated separately from the PseudoColor visuals.

If you have more than one framebuffer in a machine kcms_calibrate will be required to be run on each monitor attached to the framebuffer.

kcms_calibrate also allows the user to various aspects of profile data. This data is available via the More...  button on the main window.

DIAGNOSTICS

kcms_calibrate will display errors relating to profile access and update permissions, access to X11 visuals, and hardware calibrator problems.  All of these errors require the user to exit the tool and verify the users environment or the calibrator’s connection to the system.
