re-preinstall(1M)
NAME
re-preinstall − configure a system to factory original condition
SYNOPSIS
/sbin/re-preinstall [ −m cdrom-mnt-pt ] [ −k kernel-arch ] target_slice
cdrom-mnt-pt/export/exec/kvm/sparc.kernel-arch.release/sbin/re-preinstall
−m cdrom-mnt-pt [ −k kernel-arch ] target_slice
AVAILABILITY
re-preinstall only exists on the Solaris release media, and should only be invoked either in the install environment after booting off the media, or from a running system after mounting slice 0 of the CDROM.
DESCRIPTION
re-preinstall returns a system to an “as-manufactured” state.
cdrom-mnt-pt must be an absolute pathname to the mount point for slice 0 of the CDROM. target_slice specifies the disk slice for re-preinstall to put the preinstall stub image on.
The basic steps when booted from the install media (the first synopsis) are:
1. Manually boot the install media (local CD, remote CD and remote CDROM image) on the machine.
2. Select the choice to exit the suninstall(1) program.
3. Invoke the re-preinstall command with at least a target slice argument.
The basic steps for using re-preinstall from a running system onto a disk other than the system disk (the second synopsis) are:
1. Mount the Solaris CDROM onto cdrom-mnt-pt.
2. Run re-preinstall with the −m cdrom-mnt-pt argument. See EXAMPLES.
re-preinstall creates a standard file system onto the target slice (normally slice 0), and installs the JumpStart image onto it. Each slice may have a unique JumpStart image.
re-preinstall checks to make sure there is enough space on the target disk slice to put the JumpStart image, usually 16MB. If sufficient space is not available, re-preinstall fails with the following message:
re-preinstall: target_slice is less than 16 Megabytes, please reformat it.
OPTIONS
−m cdrom-mnt-pt Specify the path to the cdrom "slice 0" image. The default is /cdrom.
−k kernel-arch Specify the kernel architecture for the stub. The default is the kernel architecture of the machine running re-preinstall, as given by uname −m, see uname(1).
EXAMPLES
In the following example, the CDROM is mounted on /cdrom, on a sun4c machine, and the preinstall stub image will be put on disk slice 0:
example# /cdrom/export/exec/kvm/sparc.sun4c.Solaris_2.1/sbin/re-preinstall \
−m /cdrom −k sun4c c0t3d0s0
