INSTALL_CMGR(1)  —  USER COMMANDS

NAME

install_cmgr

SYNOPSIS

install_cmgr

AVAILABILITY

Available with the OpenWindows environment. For information about installing OpenwinWindows, refer to the OpenWindows Installation and Start-Up Guide.

DESCRIPTION

install_cmgr is a script that sets up the Calendar Manager Service Daemon (rpc.cmsd) used as a data base service for Calendar Manager.

USAGE

install_cmgr should be executed for first time installation of Calendar Manager or whenever there is an upgrade to OpenWindows. The $OPENWINHOME environment variable must be defined for the script to run successfully.  If it is a first time installation, you will be prompted for a response to where you want the rpc.cmsd file to reside. You may:

1) leave it in the $OPENWINHOME/bin/xview directory
2) copy it to /usr/etc
3) copy to a specified directory.

RPC daemons are typically stored in /usr/etc, but you may decide to keep a local copy or just use the one in the $OPENWINHOME directory. Once you decide on the directory, the file rpc.cmsd will be copied there. The following line is placed in your inetd.conf file :

100068/2        dgram   rpc/udp wait root $DAEMON/rpc.cmsd      rpc.cmsd

where $DAEMON is the path you previously specified in the aforementioned prompt. A HUP (-1) signal is sent to the inetd process so that is rereads the new /etc/inetd.conf file to pick up the new entry.  see inetd(5) for more information. The Calendar Manager is then ready to be run. On startup of CM, the rpc.cmsd daemon is started.

If you are upgrading, make sure there is no Calendar Manager running on the desktop. The script reads /etc/inetd.conf for the rpc.cmsd entry. It gets the path for rpc.cmsd and prompts you for whether you want  the rpc.cmsd file to be overwritten, if it is installed someplace other than the $OPENWINHOME directory. If you want the file to be overwritten, (which you probably do if you’re upgrading) answer yes. If an rpc.cmsd process is running, the script kills this process. A HUP (-1) signal is sent to the inetd process to pick up the new rpc.cmsd. Then when a new Calendar Manager is run, the new rpc.cmsd process is started.
