whoami − display the effective current username

SYNOPSIS

whoami

DESCRIPTION

whoami displays your login name; whoami works even if you have used su(1) to temporarily adopt another user ID, since it gets its information from the /etc/utmp file.

/etc/utmp database of users currently logged in
