PERFMETER(1)  —  USER COMMANDS

NAME

perfmeter − meter display of system performance values

SYNOPSIS

perfmeter [ −s sampletime ] [ −h hourhandintv ] [ −m minutehandintv ]

[ −M value minmax maxmax ] [ −v value ] [ hostname ]

DESCRIPTION

perfmeter starts a tool whose iconic form is a meter displaying a system performance value, and whose open form is a strip chart of that value.  The default is for the meter to be updated with a sampletime of 2 seconds, for the hour hand to represent an average over an interval of 20 seconds, for the minute hand to represent an average over 2 seconds, and for the value being displayed to be percent of cpu being utilized.  These defaults can be modified with command line arguments, or dynamically after the tool has been started.  If there is no hostname argument, then the data displayed will be for the local machine, otherwise for the machine named by hostname. In either case, the rstatd(8) daemon must be running on the machine for which statistics are being reported.  The maximum scale value for the strip chart will automatically double or halve to accommodate increasing or decreasing values.  The scale limits can be set with a command line option.

OPTIONS

−s sampletime
Sets the sample time to sampletime seconds.

−h hourhandintv
Sets the hour hand interval to hourhandintv seconds.

−m minutehandintv
Sets the minute hand interval to minutehandintv seconds.

−M value minmax maxmax

−v value
Sets the performance value to be monitored to one of:

cpupercent of cpu being utilized

pktsethernet packets per second

pagepaging activity in pages per second

swapjobs swapped per second

intrnumber of device interrupts per second

diskdisk traffic in transfers per second

cntxtnumber of context switches per second

loadaverage number of jobs running on the server over the last minute

collscollisions per second detected on the ethernet

errserrors per second on receiving packets

COMMANDS

The value being displayed can be changed by clicking the tool with the rightmost mouse button, and then selecting the appropriate menu item.  The other meter parameters can be modified by moving the mouse cursor into the tool (either open or closed), and typing:

mdecreases minutehandintv by one

Mincreases minutehandintv by one

hdecreases hourhandintv by one

Hincreases hourhandintv by one

1-9Sets sampletime to a range from 1 to 9 seconds.
