xir(7) —
NAME
xir − Xircom Pocket Ethernet Adapter II
DESCRIPTION
The xir interface provides STREAMS access to the Xircom Pocket Ethernet Adapter II. The driver is provided with IEEE 802.2 LLC Class 1 and Ethernet encapsulation of data by the llc(7) driver. All communication with the xir driver is done via function calls between xir and llc.
CONFIGURATION
This adapter connects externally to a standard parallel port. The space.c file provides a mechanism for specifying the system’s parameters for the parallel port to the driver. To configure the driver, the sysadm command should be used. If your system’s parallel port does not support interrupts, the variable xirtimeval in the space.c (/etc/conf/pack.d/xir0/space.c) file should be set to 1. If you have an old Xircom Pocket Ethernet Adapter with an 8k memory network buffer, the variable xir8k in the space.c file should be set to 1; otherwise, a memory size of 32k will be assumed for the network buffer.
