NAME
itr − IBM Token Ring 16/4 MBPS PC adapter board
DESCRIPTION
The itr driver provides STREAMS access to the IBM token ring PC adapter running on an ISA/EISA/MCA bus as a family of Local Area Network adapters. It transmits and receives data at a rate of either 4 or 16 MBPS.
The driver provides for IEEE 802.2 LLC Class 1 and Ethernet encapsulation of data. All communication with the driver is done via STREAMS messages in the Link Interface format specified in the file /usr/include/sys/lihdr.h.
Configuration
The /etc/conf/sdevice.d/itr0 file provides a mechanism for specifying the itr hardware and software configuration setups. The default or the released /etc/conf/sdevice.d/itr0 hardware configuration setups, such as shared memory address and IRQ values, are those for the ISA bus. For the MCA bus, the shared memory address and the IRQ value must be changed to reflect those reported by the IBM Reference Diskette. Follow the instructions given by IBM on running the Reference Diskette.
On the ISA bus, extra consideration should be given when hardware-configuring the adapter. The ROM starting address should not be confused with RAM address range.
The driver has been changed to report any IRQ value discrepancy between the kconfig value and the value read from the hardware. If a discrepancy is found, the driver has a built-in code to correct the IRQ value as given by the hardware.
On the MCA bus, the driver is made to behave more intelligently and correct all discrepancies found between values given by the kconfig menu and values read from the adapter.
