mountd(1M)  —

NAME

mountd − NFS mount request server

SYNOPSIS

/etc/mountd [ −nlu ]

DESCRIPTION

The mountd daemon is an RPC server that responds to file system mount requests.  It reads the file /etc/xtab, described in exports(4), to determine which file systems are available to which machines and users.  It also provides information as to which clients have file systems mounted.  This information can be printed using the showmount(1M) command.

OPTIONS

−u Allows information to be obtained about clients whose address mapping is unknown to the server’s nameserver, as long as the client is listed by IP address in /etc/xtab (which is generated by /etc/exportfs).  This is useful in environments where clients may come and go, and the nameservers are not kept current (primarily with dynamic address assignment, as with SLIP and PPP). It is strongly suggested that this option only be used when all of the export entries have explicit "access=" settings.

−l Logs all mount/umount/showmount requests using syslog, allowing the security-conscious to see who is trying to access their file systems.

−n Turns off the port privilege checking.  By default, mountd ensures that the port that the client is using is "privileged".
