NAME
newboot - load boot programs onto the boot area

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/sbin/newboot [-y] boot0 boot00 character-special

DESCRIPTION
newboot copies the named boot programs to the specified
character-special disk boot area; unless the boot programs
locate on /stand/mdec directory, you must specify full path-
names for the boot programs. The boot area of character-
special is the first 16, 512-byte blocks on the device. It
can be identified using prtvtoc and looking for the parti-
tion start at the sector 0. You must specify the character
     (raw) device name (i.e., /dev/rdsk/sd00a, /dev/rdsk/sd00c).
If the -y option is not specified, you are prompted for con-
firmation before the boot area on the character-special par-
tition is overwritten. The boot00 program is the 512-byte
micro-boot file loaded by the boot device firmware; its
main function is to load and execute the larger boot0 pro-
gram. The boot0 program is the boot program that loads the
secondary boot program (/boot or /stand/boot) from the root
file system. The size of the boot0 program can not greater
     than 15 512-byte blocks.

NOTES
Installing bad boot programs may make the affected disk
unbootable. Be sure you have a good backup copy of the disk
     before newboot is run.

DIAGNOSTICS
newboot returns an error if the specified boot programs are
not found. Use the full pathnames of the programs (i.e.,
     /stand/mdec/boot0, /stand/mdec/boot00).
