NAME

stinfo − displays the status of the device driver st

SYNOPSIS

/usr/sony/etc/stinfo devicename

DESCRIPTION

stinfo displays the attributes of a connected tape devices which has been specified by its devicename. The command may also be used to display the current operational status of the device driver st.  Each information item displayed and corresponding meanings are as follows. 

Drive name
Represents the internal drive name used by NEWS−OS.  If the drive has not been specifically produced for use with NEWS workstations, nothing is displayed. 

Drive type
Represents whether the drive is a MT-type (magnetic tape) device capable of handling variable length records or whether it is a streaming tape-type device supporting only fixed length records.

Maximum block size
Represents the maximum block size specifiable when writing to or reading from the tape media.

Data transfer mode
Represents the data transfer method used by the device.

Rewind ends imme. 
Represents whether or not the command ends immediately without waiting for rewind operations to end when rewinding the tape drive. Displays the word on if the drive has such a function, or the word off otherwise. 

"SPACE"
Displays the word "implemented" if the drive supports the SCSI SPACE command. 

"LOAD/UNLOAD"
Displays the word "implemented" if the drive supports the SCSI LOAD command. 

"MODE SENSE"
Displays the parameter length in number of bytes if the drive supports the SCSI SENSE command.

"MODE SELECT"
Displays the parameter length in number of bytes or the data contents upon which mode select is based if the drive supports the SCSI SENSE command.

"REQUEST SENSE"
Displays the sense data length read in by the SCSI REQUEST command in number of bytes.

"Available minor device"
Displays the record formats supported by the device and a list of device names used at that time. The data listed above is not obtained by having a command or device driver investigate the actual attributes of the drive in question. The information displayed is based only on how the device driver has been configured for the device.

BUGS

The command does not work unless a tape has been loaded in the drive of the device being investigated.  This is due to the fact that tape devices cannot be opened without a tape being loaded first.
